Why can I only use a valid credit card for the preauthorisation of the deposit at the time of hire?

Release Date:

Why can I only use a valid credit card for the preauthorisation of the deposit at the time of hire?

When booking your vehicle rental online, either directly through Green Motion or through one of its broker partners, you are presented with a choice of card payment options. The payment options are generally quite flexible and as a customer you have a wide choice of card types that you can utilise for this.

However, when collecting your vehicle from the rental location, a pre-authorisation is required at the time of hire to secure the standard excess applicable to the vehicle that you are hiring. As this is taken as a pre-authorisation, and monies are not physically deducted from your account, only a valid master or visa credit card can be accepted in most instances. This means that the payment card utilised when placing your booking may not be accepted for the preauthorisation at the time of hire.

Green Motion clearly states what cards are accepted under their Terms & Conditions of hire which are available both at the time of booking and online.

For further information on the cards that are accepted at the rental station you are interested in hiring from, please visit https://greenmotion.com/terms and click on the flag of the country you with to visit.
