Further information to help with your car rental from Toronto

After you’ve safely landed in Canada and collected your hire car from Green Motion Toronto, we know that you will be eager to get your car on the road and start exploring Toronto.

If you are unfamiliar with driving in Canada, it is important to remember that you must drive on the right hand side of the road. We also recommend that you consider hiring a GPS / SatNav to ensure that you arrive at your chosen destination with speed and accuracy and hopefully less fights with your family / friends!

Enjoy your car hire in Toronto

If this is your first time driving a car in Toronto, our advice is to stay calm and take your time. As already mentioned, remember that you must drive on the right-hand side of the road. We also recommend for your own peace of mind to consider hiring a GPS to ensure you can navigate around Toronto with ease (ask at the rental counter for details).

Satety road standards throughout Canada are high, therefore we strongly urge you to comply with all of the Canadian road rules, for instance wearing a seatbelt for all passengers is mandatory.

If you are planning on driving in other areas of Canada, such as Quebec, it would be useful to familiarise yourself with some French sayings and / or bring along a French phrase book as all of the road signs are exclusively written in French.

When travelling on the motorways in Canada, the speed limit is 100 km/h. The speed limit outside the city and in built-up areas is 50 mph unless started otherwise. For your own safety it is important that you obey the local traffic and speed restrictions.

Should you require any assistance while in Toronto, Canadian emergency services can be contacted by calling 911 for police, fire fighters and medical services.

Discover Toronto

Toronto is the most populous city in Canada and has become an international hub for finance, arts, business and culture. The city is also known for its sky-scrapers which populate the city's horizon and is intersected by rivers and creeks.

The humid intercontinental climate ensures that Toronto is hot in the summer and cold in the winter, the summer season temperatures range anywhere from 23 – 35°C (73 – 95°F) and temperatures in the winter season can be below -10°C (14°F) with snow likely to fall between November until April.

During your stay in Toronto – whether it be a wintery wonderland or a humid summertime dream - we would recommend that you include the following destinations into your travel itinerary:

  1. Explore the CN Tower, the world's #1 elevator / lift ride! There are three observation levels including the famous glass floor with a view 324 m / 1,122 ft down, a great way to test your fear of heights! You can stand or even jump on the glass – don't worry, the floor is 256 square feet of solid glass which is actually 5 times stronger than the standard required weight for commercial floors.
  2. If heights are your thing, then you will also love visiting the Fantasy Fair located in the Woodbine Shopping Centre. Ontario's largest indoor amusement park offers the classic favourites – roller-coasters, a train, arcade, carousel and more! However do not be alarmed, there are many rides and games which stay very close to the ground!
  3. The Toronto Zoo is home to around 5,000 animals – with that much selection you are guaranteed to find an animal you love or maybe 5 or 10 or 5,000! The zoo is split into 7 zoogeographic regions with the animals enjoying tropical pavilions and naturalistic environments.
