Car rental at Tirana Airport – Good to know about driving there
Once you have landed at Tirana International Airport (Nënë Tereza) and picked up your rental car from the designated office, we wish you a safe and delightful journey!
For those navigating Tirana’s roads for the first time, take a moment to get familiar with your vehicle, understand Albania's traffic regulations, and plan your routes carefully.
In Albania, driving is on the right-hand side. A valid driving license from your home country is required, and depending on your country of origin, you may also need an International Driving Permit (IDP). Be cautious, as local driving habits can be unpredictable, particularly in urban areas like Tirana.
While Tirana doesn’t have heavy congestion compared to larger European cities, traffic during peak hours can be busy, especially near the city center. Roads in rural or mountainous areas may be less developed or unpaved, so extra care is advised when exploring outside the city.
The speed limits in Albania are generally 40 km/h in urban areas, 80 km/h on secondary roads, and 110 km/h on highways, though these limits may vary depending on signage and road conditions.
Fuel stations are readily available in and around Tirana, but when traveling to rural areas, plan your stops ahead as fuel stations may be sparse.
If you need help while driving in Tirana, don’t hesitate to contact our office. In case of emergencies, dial 112 for all emergency services.
Enjoy your journey and the beauty of Albania!
