Where do you pick up your car?

Flamingo International Airport is the primary gateway to the island of Bonaire, located just a few kilometers south of the capital, Kralendijk. As one of the smallest international airports in the Caribbean, the arrival process is usually smooth and efficient, meaning you'll be on the road within minutes of collecting your rental car.
Visit Bonaire to get a relaxing and unique trip away! The best way to do this is by renting a car from Green Motion. We believe in sustainability and looking after the environment. Not only are we eco-friendly choice, but renting a car will also allow you to explore the island in your own time.
Before you rent
Choose wisely. In 2019 we introduced our multi-product system which helps you choose a car based on your needs and easily see the final price. Car rental insurance can be tricky to navigate and often isn't what you expect, by booking with us direct you'll receive the correct insurance for your rental.
When you collect your vehicle
Plan ahead. We recommend planning your route before you leave, especially when renting a car at an airport. Are you sure where you're meeting your chaperone or where the rental desk is? Your confirmation email will have the contact information for the location, so we suggest saving the number in your phone ahead of time.
Have the correct documents ready. We try and keep the check in process as painless as possible but we do need to process certain information for legal reasons so having these ready ahead of time can help speed up the process. Make sure you have your booking details ready, along with your driving licence, passport and valid credit card.
Complete a vehicle check. It's essential when you are taken to your car you complete a Vehicle Condition Report (VCR) and note any existing damage, paying particular attention to the five damage hotspots. If you don't report this, you may be liable for these damages when you return the vehicle. We don't want you to get caught out, so we've put together a handy vehicle inspection video to help you check everything thoroughly.
While you rent
Take care. Unfortunately you may be liable for any damage caused to a vehicle in your care, and this will vary depending on the product you choose. A large proportion of damages to any car can be dings you pick up in car parks, so be mindful when space is limited and park further away and walk a little further to your destination.
When you return your vehicle
Complete a vehicle check. It's time to carry out a VCR again and even more essential to fully log any damage, no matter how small, to ensure you are fully covered and we can process your return effectively. Be sure to check the vehicle as before, paying special attention to the five damage hotspots.

We rented a car via Green Motion in November last year for our research visit to Bonaire. We needed to make some upgrades at the last minute, and we had the best service a customer can imagine and wish for. We have been helped in all matters flexibly and quickly, and the car drop-off and pick-up were flawless. I highly recommend this rental company, and we will stay loyal to renting a car for our regular research visits in Bonaire. Thank you very much for the great service.

Nice company with nice budget cars and excellent service! See you again👍
Upon exiting the airport, you'll find yourself on Kaya International, which connects directly to the island's main roads. Traffic is typically light, and Bonaire drivers are calm and courteous. There are no traffic lights on the island — intersections are managed via signage, and vehicles on the right-hand side generally have priority.
Signage is minimal but intuitive, and distances are short enough that getting lost is rare. Speed limits are generally 40 km/h (25 mph) in town and 60 km/h (37 mph) outside urban areas. Watch out for roaming donkeys, goats, and cyclists — especially at dawn and dusk.
Rental cars are commonly available directly at or near the airport, and most companies offer easy pickup and drop-off services. You'll typically find compact cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks in high demand — especially by divers needing space for gear.
Fuel stations are limited, with the closest one being about 5 minutes north of the airport, near Kaya Industria.
Driving from Bonaire Airport to Kralendijk city center takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes via Kaya International or Kaya Industria. The roads are well-marked and in good condition, making the short journey very straightforward. Parking in town is generally free and easily available.
From the airport, it’s also a short drive to major hotels and beach resorts along the southwest coast. Popular snorkeling and diving spots such as Te Amo Beach and Donkey Beach are reachable in just 3–5 minutes. If you're heading to the northern part of the island or Washington Slagbaai National Park, expect a longer drive of 45–60 minutes, with some roads becoming rough and requiring high-clearance vehicles.
