Things to fill your weekend in Glasgow with

Glasgow is one of Europe’s most vibrant cities and in 2019 has recently been voted the world’s friendliest, too. Lucky for you, you’ve found yourself in the city for the weekend!

As with most cities, there is plenty for you to fill your time with during your visit, but for you to make the best use of your weekend in Glasgow, you need to make sure you don’t miss out on anything that strikes the right note with you.

To help, here are some of our favourite sites, attractions and things to do in Glasgow that will keep you occupied for a weekend:

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is the perfect family day out. You can easily spend hours on end here without even scratching the surface! The building is jam-packed with a collection of 8,000 objects covering everything from fine-art to dinosaurs and aeroplanes.

There’s no set theme, with 22 different galleries operating which offer a glimpse into Glasgow itself and world history with rare artwork and objects.

Live music

Glasgow and music go hand in hand. So much so, the city has been given UNESCO City of Music status!

So, what are you waiting for? Go and embrace some of the city’s finest live music venues. There are over 100 live music sessions in the city happening every week! From intimate gigs in pubs and local bands in small venues to the biggest names in huge arenas like the SSE Hydro, Glasgow has it all. Barrowland Ballroom is perhaps the most endearing choice by locals and is well worth a visit.

Glasgow’s West End

The West End of Glasgow is recognised as the city’s most vibrant and bustling places to be. Victorian buildings, gardens, creative hubs, boutique shops and some of the best food and drink in Glasgow.

Once you’ve sampled some of the food, head over to the Hidden Lane, a collection of over 100 studios housing local creatives who also sell their goods.

Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond is one of the most beautiful and iconic locations in Scotland. The Loch is in the middle of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, a tranquil retreat from the hectic city. Here, there is the opportunity to hike the hills, partake in water sports or take a leisurely cruise along the loch taking in the stunning surroundings.

Loch Lomond is just over half an hour drive from Glasgow and is a must visit if you’re in the area.

Glasgow car hire

With your own car, you can enjoy the freedom area and head off to all of the sites and attractions surrounding Glasgow, too. Green Motion car hire has a branch found in the heart of Glasgow.
