Green Motion awarded the Green World Award 2023
What a win!
Over the next 3 weeks, around 100 people will travel in a prototype driverless shuttle bus.
The vehicle travels at 10mph and is controlled by a computer however there will be a trained individual on-hand within the vehicle should it require any attention during the test.
Oxbotica, the company who developed the autonomous shuttle, said that 5,000 people have applied to take part. The vehicle’s route is in Greenwich, London.
The shuttle can seat 4 people at a time and has no steering wheel or brake pedal. During its trial, 5 cameras and 3 lasers will navigate its 2 mile riverside route alongside London’s O2 Arena.
The autonomous shuttle can see up to 100m (328ft) ahead and comes to a secure stop if it detects that anything is in its way, however it can also do an emergency brake if necessary.
Oxbotica say that passengers can begin using the system by 2019 and there is the potential that it could be rolled-out elsewhere.
