A new study from the University of North Carolina has estimated that climate change, if not addressed, will cause around 60,000 deaths in 2030

A new study from the University of North Carolina has estimated that climate change, if not addressed, can be expected to cause around 60,000 deaths in the year 2030 and 260,000 deaths in the year 2100 due to climate change’s effect on air pollution.

The study is the most comprehensive completed study that has concentrated on how climate change will affect the world’s health via air pollution.

Warmer temperatures speed up the chemical reactions that form air pollutants – like ozone and fine particulate matter, which negatively affect public health. Areas which are drier may also have worse air pollution because it is not being removed by rain and instead they see an increase of fires and windblown dust. Trees also respond to higher temperatures and emit more organic pollutants.
