A record breaking amount of snow in Iceland

A record breaking amount of snow fell in Iceland’s Reykjavik city with the snow beginning to fall on Sunday.

The snow has peaked at 51 cm (20 inches), with this only being topped in 1937 when the snowfall reached 55 cm (21.6 inches).

Many roads may still be closed, so be wary if you plan to venture out however despite the chaos, many locals welcomed the snow – finding it as a good opportunity for pictures and fun.

If you have been affected by the weather, please remember to contact your car rental agent such as Green Motion in Iceland (Reflavik International Airport or Reyjavik) or please contact Green Motion car hire directly at greenmotion.com or +44 (0) 2071864000.
