Google’s parent company, Alphabet, have made a move in bringing their autonomous vehicle technology to the market cheaper and faster.

The company Waymo, owned by Alphabet, have decreased the price of lidar which is an important component of self-driving cars.

A lidar sensor is attached to the top of a car, it then spins and shoots lasers to create a map of the car’s surroundings.

The lidar has been the most expensive component of an autonomous car, with a single unit costing around $75,000, but the price will be decreased by up to 90% which would be roughly $7,500 per sensor.
