The report by Greenpeace, which named Apple as the most environmentally friendly technology company, has stated that Amazon’s carbon footprint is significantly worse than other global technology companies.

Amazon is not keeping pace with other companies, such as Google, Facebook and Apple, who have been actively adopting renewable energy.

However, Amazon wasn’t the only company to be called out on its environmental footprint, as Netflix was also criticised on its use of fossil fuels instead of renewables.

An Amazon spokesperson said that by the end of 2017, 50% of the company will be using renewable energy with the ultimate goal being to achieve 100%.
