Bill Gates joins forces with the world's richest people in order to tackle climate change

Bill Gates, in an attempt to tackle climate change, has joined forces with some of the world’s richest people, including Sir Richard Branson and Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos. Together, they have created a £800 million / $1 billion fund which is named Breakthrough Energy Ventures.

The initiative will invest in green energy over 20 years with its funders hoping that this long-term approach will help to deliver to the next generation more reliable and affordable energy.

Contrary to most investments, Breakthrough Energy Ventures is taking a long-term approach by backing cheaper and more reliable energy sources.

The backers are worth around £135 billion / $170 billion which means the initiative has the richest collection of investors in history.

The fund, which originally began in support of clean energy which was shared during the Paris Climate talks in 2015, was launched earlier this week on Monday the 12th of December.

It has been predicted that the fund will invest in efficient transport and storage of energy as well as production.

Although a full list of investors has not yet been announced, the following list of names have been released.
