Car Manufacturers hit back saying the newer diesels vehicles are the cleanest in their history

Following the recent flood of negative allegations against diesel vehicles, car manufactures have hit back, saying the newer diesels are the cleanest in their history.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have stated diesel vehicles could play a significant role in helping to improve air quality and in challenging climate change.

A government report, publishing in April 2016, evidenced that the diesel cars being sold in the UK are emitting 6 times more nitrogen oxide in real-world driving conditions than the legal limit which are used in official tests.

Recent reports are failing to differentiate between older diesel cars and those which are being sold by manufacturers today, which comply with the Euro 6 emission standards.

The latest vehicles actually feature filters and technology which converts the majority of the nitrogen oxide from the engine into harmless nitrogen and water before it reaches the exhaust.
