Stansted Airport are stating that a lack of Border Control Staff are responsible for the late night chaos that caused more than 5000 passengers to queue for more than an hour waiting to get through passport control.
The airport are currently investigating why so many of the desks were unmanned and why many of the e-desks were not operational during this peak time. It has been said that more than 40 flights arrived between 10pm and midnight last night, but this is not classed as uncharacteristically busy for this time. Stansted have apologised unreservedly to all of the passengers that have been affected.
