Daimler plan to reveal their self-driving electric Smartcar concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show (14th – 24th September)

Daimler are planning to reveal their self-driving electric Smartcar concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show (14th – 24th September).

The company have envisioned the vehicle, named the Smart Vision EQ Fortwo, to be used in cities for car sharing.

Take a look below at some of the cars features:

  • The concept vehicle is aimed at urban environments to be used as a robot taxi.
  • A black panel grill on the front of the vehicle can be personalised – for instance, so that the person who requested the vehicle knows it's their ride. The grill can also display whether or not the vehicle is occupied / in use.
  • This grill can also be used to communicate with pedestrians.
  • The vehicle also has projection surfaces on its side where personalised information can be displayed.
  • The vehicle has scissor doors, which can also be used to display information like weather, news or local events.
  • The vehicle is fully electric, powered by a 30 kWh lithium-ion battery.
  • When the vehicle isn’t transporting anyone, it will return to a charging station to power up.
  • Functions inside the vehicle are controlled by a person’s voice or smartphone.
