Diesel cheaper than petrol for first time in 14 years

Are cost implications putting you off purchasing more eco friendly vehicles? According to an article published by Fleet News, for the first time in over a decade diesel fuel is actually cheaper than petrol at some petrol stations.

A number of major supermarkets in the United Kingdom have started to cut down on their diesel prices and there are hopes from the motoring organisation that other retailers will soon start to follow.

Wholesale diesel prices are lower than wholesale petrol and the motoring industry are anticipating the price of diesel to continue to fall (possibly by 4p per litre over the next 2 weeks). The last time diesel was lower than petrol was 15 years ago – on the 17th of July 2001.

Currently, average diesels prices stand at 118.98p per litre which is not far behind unleaded petrol which is priced at 117.24p per litre.

With the nation having over 10 million diesel drivers, this news has certainly been welcomed.

Richard Lowden, the CEO and owner of Green Motion International, commented, “The new prices will certainly bring in greater prosperity to Green Motion’s car rental industry, helping us to keep car rental costs down not only for ourselves but also for our customers. As the world’s first and currently only 100% eco friendly car hire company, we also hope that the reduction in diesel prices will have a positive impact on the awareness of customers when choosing more eco friendly vehicles for their daily use.”
