Elon Musk sends Tesla Roadster into space

Billionaire entrepreneur and SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk sent his cherry red Tesla Roadster on a one way mission to the edge of our solar system this week.

The Roadster was delivered into space by the Falcon Heavy, now the most powerful rocket in operation and second only to the Saturn V rockets, which carried men to the moon during the Apollo era.

The Falcon launched from Cape Canaveral on Tuesday, watched by hundreds of thousands of people who crowded Florida’s space coast.

Carrying a mannequin called ‘Starman’, the Roadster was released by the Falcon Heavy and sent on its way towards Mars and onwards to the edge of our solar system.

Launching the most powerful rocket of our age – and successfully recovering 2 of the 3 boosters, puts SpaceX at the forefront of the commercial space race.
