It has only been 4 months since Finland’s social-security institution, Kela, launched a 2-year basic income experiment. The experiment distributes a salary to people for just being alive and the 2,000 recipients taking part in the program are already showing lower levels of stress.
While they do not receive that much each month, just $600, it is enough to put some people’s anxiety at ease.
Finland’s program is an adapted version of basic income. Those who applied when the experiment started last year had to be unemployed however if they happen to find a job after the experiment has already started, they will continue to receive basic income each month. Kela won’t provide any formal data on the trial until 2018.
Not only does the above evidence that Finland is a great place to live, but it is also a great place to visit.
