Founder and chairman of Green Motion issues ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Founder and Chairman of Green Motion, Richard Lowden following his own nomination by his son to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge issued a challenge of his own to the 13 country owners of each Green Motion car rental franchise operations.

ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a neurodegenerative disorder. The disease affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord and is characterised by rapid muscle weakness which results in difficulty while speaking, swallowing and breathing. Patients may even become completely paralysed at the later end of the disease.

There is currently no cure for the disease; however, research has developed some progressive treatment to help slow its effects. The ALS Association aims to further this research and to enable individuals to learn how to live with their condition.

While the charitable cause can often be overlooked in these Ice Bucket Challenge videos, Richard wanted to highlight the importance as well as the fun of the challenge.

Richard said, 'Participation in raising awareness and money for the ALS Association charity has been a global phenomenon and I am delighted that myself and the Green Motion team are able to make our contribution.'

Take a look at our YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=velF0aB0i50) to see Richard’s challenge and we will be posting videos of the other locations as and when they complete their challenge!

Please visit the ALS (or any other geographical specific charity) website to find out how you can get involved and/or make a donation (http://www.alsa.org/fight-als/ice-bucket-challenge.html).
