Google has pledged to purchase 100% of its energy from renewable sources in 2017

Google has made a monumental commitment to green energy by pledging to purchase 100% of its energy from renewable sources in 2017.

The company is already one of the largest corporate buyers of renewable power and they are now planning on buying enough wind / solar electricity to account for every unit of electricity that their operations consume globally - including their offices as well as their much more “power-hungry” data centres.

It is necessary to note that this isn’t the same as Google having all of their operations directly powered by renewable energy, as this isn’t possible due to the way power grids work. However, it does mean that Google will be buying enough energy from renewable sources to account for the entirety of their operations.
