Today marks the beginning of the celebrations for the Queen’s 90th birthday. The three day event began with a national service of Thanksgiving held at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London earlier this morning.
The Queen’s birthday achieves another British milestone, not only is Queen Elizabeth II the longest reigning monarch, she is now also Britain’s oldest reigning monarch.
The celebrations will continue on Saturday with the annual Trooping the Colour which will be held on a Horse Guards Parade and the Royal Family will be making an appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace later within the day.
Sunday the 12th of June marks the last day of the festivities with the Queen hosting a street party at the Patron’s Lunch – it is estimated that around 10,000 people will be attending.
Interestingly, tomorrow is not the Queen’s actual birthday as her real birthday is the 21st of April however the tradition of celebrating the Queen's birthday in June dates back to over 250 years. This tradition began to try and ensure good weather for the official celebrations however as it is the United Kingdom, you should always be prepared with a brolly (umbrella).
To join in with the festivities, Green Motion offers its car and van rental services at many locations throughout London including London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London Stansted, London Luton and many downtown locations within central London (London Euston, London Edgware Road, London Kings Cross, London Marylebone, London Paddington and London St Pancras).
