Many flights cancelled in Florida due to Hurricane Matthew

As Hurricane Matthew continues to churn through the Caribbean, it is becoming increasingly likely that it will come close to Florida, therefore travel to and from the southern side of the state began to slow down on Wednesday with many flights cancelled on Thursday.

Airlines cancelled around 1,600 flights Wednesday evening which included 1,070 today and 400 on Friday and it is most likely that the numbers could increase depending upon the activity of the storm.

All American Airline flights arriving into Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL), Miami International Airport (MIA) and Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) have been cancelled today (Thursday October 6th). The airline is planning on resuming a reduced operation at 8 am Friday morning with full operation by 12 noon.

Delta Airlines have cancelled 120 flights to and from Miami, West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale, beginning around 12 noon today, with arrivals to Miami expecting to resume this evening and flights to and from Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach expected to resume Friday morning.

Depending on where the hurricane will strike, airlines are preparing to suspend flights from Florida up through Georgia, South and North Carolina.

If you have been affected, please remember to contact your car rental agent such as Green Motion in Miami, Florida to ensure that they are aware of your updated travel plans. Alternatively, you can call our Central Car Hire Reservation's Team on +44 (0) 2071864000.
