Mexico City is the world’s most traffic congested city

Mexico City has, again, been identified as the world’s most congested city.

According to the 2017 TomTom Traffic Index, drivers in Mexico City can expect to spend around 66% more travel time stuck in traffic; this is up 7% from last year.

During the evening and peak periods, drivers can anticipate spending up to 101% more time in traffic.

This level of congestion means drivers can spend an additional 59 minutes each day stuck in traffic, which equates to 227 hours a year.

The worst cities for traffic after Mexico City were Bangkok (Thailand), Jakarta (Indonesia), Chongqing (China) and Bucharest (Romania).

In North America, after Mexico City the top 5 most congested cities were Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver and New York – exactly the same as last year.

The TomTom Traffic Index gathers traffic data in 390 cities in 48 countries.
