New York and California will continue to fight against climate change, opposing President Trump

Those who have opposed the US President, Donald Trump, in his decision to abandon his predecessor’s climate change policies have said that they will organise a public campaign and even carry out legal avenues if required to challenge Trump’s ruling.

New York and California have issued a joint statement, they have stated that they will continue to fight against climate change.

The President has stated that his goal is to end “job-killing regulations” as his supporters argue that ending Obama’s climate change rules will create jobs in the gas, coal and oil industries.

New York and California’s governors have warned that Trump is ignoring basic science.

Governor Brown said, “Erasing climate change may take place in Donald Trump’s mind, but nowhere else.”

Currently, California has a special waiver in place, allowing them to enforce tough measures on vehicles emissions but the President could rescind this. He could also ask Congress to withdraw the Clean Air Act.

The US is currently one of the highest emitters of emissions globally.
