Green motion norway electric charging

Norway is leading the way for EV charging

It isn’t too hard to envision that the era of electric vehicles will soon be upon us however with the sporadic charging infrastructure we currently have in place globally, this may be logistically more difficult than many of us realise.

Although, Norway may be able to provide a shining example of how we need to develop.

Norway currently has more than 100,000 EV’s on the road. In 2015, roughly 23% of new vehicle registrations were for electric cars.

To enable and promote the use of electric vehicles, Norway’s government has increased its environmental awareness as well as using incentives such as zero VAT, exemption from congestion charges and free parking.

However, now all of these new electric vehicles need somewhere to charge. For fleet vehicles, Norway has introduced the use of load balancing which enables 8 times more electric vehicles to be charged compared to standard charging. Load balancing also guarantees that the vehicles are charged safely with the appropriate supply of electricity.

For charging while on the road, Norway has increased sites where vehicles can be charged with pay by the minute or pay monthly options – these can also be booked in advance. This allows you to map out your travel as there are plenty of charging stations available throughout Norway.

Sweden and Germany are now following in the footsteps of Norway with their government’s introducing similar financial incentives.

In addition, from 2025 you will no longer be allowed to register new petrol or diesel vehicles in Norway. Not great news for petrol-heads but it is good news for those who believe in a more eco-logical travel environment.

Green Motion is actively promoting the expansion of its environmentally conscious car hire brand globally, with car rental franchise opportunities available for Norway, Sweden, Germany and France, among others.
