There is plenty to see and do in Tirana. Take a walk over to the National History Museum, covering 27,000 sq. meters and offering a fascinating insight into Albania’s history, and the National Arts Gallery, showing Albanian Art which started in 1946. We also recommend the Grand Park of Tirana, home to a zoo, beautiful gardens and a picturesque and calming lake. The nightlife doesn’t disappoint either, and pre-covid times the bloc was the place to go for a good night out. There are still plenty of fantastic restaurants to visit and you can enjoy a nice buzz in the city in the evening.

Sarande is a great place to go if you wanted a relaxed but interesting staycation. Take a trip to Lekursi Castle, which sits on a hill overlooking the town. The Monastery of Forty Saints was erected during the 6th century AD and is a great place to visit to experience some Albanian history. We also recommend a trip to Butrint National Park which spans over 9,424 hectares and is home to over 1200 different species of animal and plants, as well as the lake and lagoon of Butrinti. There are also beautiful beaches to visit such as the Pulebardha and Saranda beaches.

When visiting Vlora you must include the The Blue Eye and Zvernec Monastery on your itinerary. The Blue Eye is a stunning natural phenomenon and if you’re lucky you’ll get to see the dragonflies, butterflies and birds that live there. Home to the biggest seaport in the country, Durres could be paired with a trip to Tirana but also has enough to keep you busy whilst you’re there. There is a beautiful amphitheatre in the city, which seats 15,000 people and is the second largest in the Balkans. The Byzantine Forum that makes up some of the original city castle walls, was walked down by Caesar himself so make sure you plan a trip to talk in his steps! After that, head over to the Ethnographic Museum and the Durres Art Museum.

Perhaps best known for the Shkodra Lake National Park, the largest lake in Southern Europe, there is still a lot to explore in Shkodra city. You must visit Rozafa Castle while you’re there, which gives you a fantastic view of the city and is famous for a local legend (we’ll let you visit to find it out!). We also recommend visiting the Marubi National Museum of Photography and the Venice Art Factory – you could fit both in 1 day and they are well worth the trip. Visit the Old Town in the afternoon to view the beautifully painted pastel buildings and sample the local cuisine.
