Plan your staycation in England

Located not too far from Bristol, if you’re looking to visit the South West you have to include Bath on your trip. Known as the original wellbeing destination, you of course have to visit the roman baths while you’re there. If you can, visit the modern Thermae Bath Spa as well – home to Britain’s only natural thermal hot springs. There are also plenty of other places to visit such as the Victoria Art Gallery, Herschel Museum of Astronomy, and Mary Shelley’s House of Frankenstein!

From art galleries to theatres, and top restaurants to fantastic range of stops, Cambridge are used to hosting visitors due to the world-renowned university, so you’ll be well looked after and find lots to do. In the sunnier months we recommend taking a punting tour on the River Cam, visit the Cambridge University Botanic Garden, take some afternoon tea at Fitzbillies, and book tickets to one of their open-air cinemas in the evening. You also have the benefit of being on the corridor of Norfolk, and close to the M11 if you fancy popping into London.

Considered one of the most beautiful places to visit in Britain, Cornwall is a long drive for some but certainly delivers. If you’re looking for some history and culture, take a trip to Tintagel castle, famous for the legend of King Arthur, or book tickets for the Minack Theatre, an open-air theatre carved out of a cliff! St Ives is a must visit to experience the jewel of Cornwall for yourself – famous for its surf beaches and art scene. If you have time you have to visit Land’s End and, of course, try a traditional Cornish pasty!

Home to the Jurassic Coast, Dorset is a fantastic place to spend your staycation. With family favourites Bournemouth and Weymouth close by, you can also visit The Dinosaur Museum, Monkey World, Splashdown, Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens and of course, Durdle Door! Being on the coast, Dorset also has plenty of beaches on offer for a cheaper, more relaxing family day out. Many accept your four legged friends as well!

If you’re looking for a staycation where you can be one with nature, the Lake District has to be it. Visit the Aira Force Waterfall to experience something of true beauty, right here in the UK. There are also plenty of walks for beginners and intermediates alike, including dogs if they come along! A perfect base in the Midlands for an activity packed staycation, there is also plenty to do in Leicester as well. Great for little ones and adults alike, a visit to The National Space Centre (NSC) is a must. The NSC is home to six galleries, a rocket tower and has the UK’s largest domed planetarium! If that doesn’t take your fancy, take a trip over to Twycross Zoo where you’ll see over 500 animals, including the critically endangered Sumatran tigers. You are also a short drive away from Birmingham, where you can visit Cadbury World and the National Sealife Centre. You just need to work out how you're going to fit it all in!

Home to the famous Old Trafford football Club, there’s a lot more to Manchester than just football. The Science and Industry Museum is a must visit, with Manchester being known as the birthplace of the industrial revolution. Based in the City Centre you can make a day of it by visiting the Crystal Maze LIVE Experience or the Legoland Discovery Centre! There are plenty of places to dine in Manchester and you’re guaranteed to enjoy the nightlife. Manchester is also a 1.5 hour drive from the Lake District, meaning you can jump from the hustle and bustle of the city to the calm and beautiful countryside and back again in a day!

Newcastle has so much to offer that a day just wouldn’t be enough, so it’s a fantastic spot for a staycation. There’s so much to do in York, your biggest challenge will be knowing where to start! Home to thirty museums, we recommend starting off with the National Railway Museum which is great for families and enthusiasts. If you’re lucky, you may be able to time your visit when the Flying Scotsman is in town! The York is also known for its incredible sea life centre The Deep, which is home to over 5000 animals and entertaining for visitors of all ages. To round it all off, if you fancy a bit of retail therapy head on over to Coppergate Centre where you’ll find over 120 leading designer and high street brands (some at up to 60% discount), or take an idyllic wonder down the River Ouse.
