Pringles and Lucozade are the villains of the recycling world

The Recycling Association has said that Pringles tubes and Lucozade Sport bottles are the villains of the recycling world.

They have been named and shamed in a list of products that pose the largest challenges for reuse as the greater amount of materials used in packaging, the harder it is for them to be separated by recycling machines.

Pringles packaging, which has a metal base, plastic cap, metal tear-off lid and foil-lined sleeve is said to be a literal nightmare.

Lucozade’s bottle, on the other hand, is recyclable however it is enclosed in a sleeve which is made from a different kind of plastic. The bottle is confusing to computer scanners which means that it has to be taken off of the recycling conveyor and then it often just gets binned.

Prince Charles will be launching a $2 million (£1.5 million) prize for inventors who can create products which are practical and easily recyclable. This news is welcomed by many, as improvements in design are desperately needed.
