Ryanair, Europe’s busiest airline, said yesterday that it had seen a doubling in the number of UK bookings to destinations in the Mediterranean compared with seven days earlier.

Analysis by Travelsupermarket, the price comparison website, showed that the average price of a package holiday from the UK to the Algarve over the summer months had dropped by 48 per cent between late March and early June. Average prices for breaks to Tenerife are down by 19 per cent while they have dropped by 21 per cent to Zante.
