Tesla Motors Has Announced the Tesla Energy Brand

Tesla Motors has announced their new product - the Tesla Energy which is a set of batteries specifically designed for the use in homes and businesses.

The CEO Elon Musk stated in a press conference that the batteries are designed to store energy captured during the day (such as through the use of solar panels) and then release the energy when needed - such as during the evenings and on demand.

The system breaks down into two separate products - the Powerwall and the Powerback. To put it simply, the Powerwall is for use in homes and costs around $3,000 for the 7kWh model and $3,500 for the 10 kWh model. The model is not intrusive, it's about 3 feet by 4 feet in size and 6 inches deep which can be fixed to the inside or outside wall of your house. The Powerback, by contrast, is for use in businesses and companies and the models range from 500kWh to 10mWh.

Musk estimates that 160 million Powerbacks are needed to power the US and 2 billion to power the world.

Tesla Motors are aiming to start taking orders for their Tesla Energy products later this year.
