The darker world of the green revolution

Following on from yesterday's article , the road to the promised land of zero emission vehicles still has several bumps it still needs to overcome.

This is due to battery makers finding it difficult to secure the supplies needed to power such large packs needed for EV models - mainly cobalt and lithium.

Miners are confident that more deposits of these precious minerals exist – but they still need to find them.

However, the darker world of this dream has not had many lights shone on it. While companies are working on achieving a green revolution, the human rights group have stated that children, some as young as 7, continue to work in often dangerous conditions in mines. Many of these children are extracting cobalt with the big brands failing to do basic checks to ensure the mines they employ do not use child labour, according to a report by Amnesty and Afrewatch.

A green revolution needs to be not only concerned with the welfare of the world but also the welfare of the world’s population.
