The French Government intends to ban all petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040

Nicolas Hulot, France’s new Minister of Ecological and Solidary Transition, has announced that the French Government intends to ban all petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040.

Hulot made the statement at a news conference presenting a 5 year plan to encourage clean energy and achieve the country's commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement.

Hulot stated that France's motor manufacturers have projects underway which could accomplish that promise.

As part of the plan, it has been suggested that poorer households will receive a premium so they can exchange their polluting vehicles for clean alternatives.
