The government approved a 3^rd runway at London Heathrow Airport to expand UK capacity.

Many believe that the decision is a positive move by supporting trade and creating more jobs, however not everyone is convinced. The Mayor of London has stated that the noise and pollution in London is already ‘[…] a killer,’ which will only be increased by the new runway.

Although, the move will bring more economic benefits to passengers and create new jobs, allowing more direct flights to inbound UK destinations as well as up to 40 new cities throughout the world.

A public consultation will now be held to determine the effects of expanding Heathrow Airport before the government can make its final decision. MP’s will then vote on that final decision during the end / beginning of 2017 – 2018, and if the runway is given the go-ahead, it is unlikely that the new runway will be operational before 2025.
