Hundreds of protesters have taken to the streets of Lebanon in a second day of protest, many of those partaking have resorted to burning tyres and vandalism of store fronts to gain media and political attention. Residents report that the country is in the middle of an ‘economic emergency’ that many locals blame on the Lebanese government, their reaction to their leader’s actions came after the announcement of new tax laws. A few days before this announcement, ’the worst forest fires in ten years’ had struck the country, reportedly without appropriate action from the government which has further aggravated the Lebanese public.
After hours of protest within the capital, 'baton-wielding' police are reported to be confronting the crowds with tear gas and rubber bullets in an attempt to control the crowds.
