The plastic bag in Britain has essentially disappeared just 6 months after the Government announced a 5p charge in an effort to discourage shoppers from regularly using them.

Shoppers are now on track to use around 6 billion less plastic bags (with reference to the bags being employed only for single use) this year. To date, Britain has been able to save 40,801 tons of plastic.

Since the policy came into effect in the United Kingdom in October 2015, the total amount of plastic bags used at the biggest retailers has fallen around 85%.

The plan aims to reduce the amount of plastic dumped into the ocean while raising money for local charities, illustrating how small actions can create such big changes.
