The RAC Foundation, based in London, has advised that fleet and safety manufacturers could drive the demand for drive-safe modes on smartphones.
Around 66% of the UK population own a smartphone with the greater majority of users already aware of the flight-safe mode which will constrict communication that could possibly interfere with a plane’s system.
As mentioned in our news story on the 2nd of August, many drivers are regularly putting themselves at risk by allowing themselves to be distracted by their phones.
Every year at least 70 fatal accidents take place on British roads with the driver being ‘distracted’ as the main factor.
The RAC Foundation carried out surveys and interviews to understand what the industry is doing to minimise the use of drivers using distractive technology.
The survey found that the demand for drive-safe technology should be initiated from fleet and safety managers who are more conscious of the legal and moral obligations to protect drivers.
Green Motion car hire is concerned about the safety of our vehicle rental customers and as such we would recommend that you download an app (a variety of which are available) to reduce the amount of distraction caused by your phone while you are at the wheel.
