The UK and US announce cabin luggage ban on laptops and other devices

The UK and the US governments have announced a cabin baggage ban on laptops and other tablets.

Officials say that bombs can be hidden in different devices, including e-readers. Passengers will still be able to take most smartphones, games consoles and DVD players onto the plane however the affected devices will need to be placed in hold luggage.

The ban relates to direct flights from Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Qatar, the UAE and Tunisia. The ban has not been given a start-date however airlines have started the process of implementing it.

The Canadian Transport Minister has stated that they are also considering implementing the restrictions.
