The UK government to publish their new air quality plan today

Lawyers are taking action against the government, citing that the government has repeatedly failed to clean up illegal levels of air pollution in the United Kingdom.

It is expected that the UK government will publish their air quality plan by midday today, with a targeted diesel scheme to reduce dangerous nitrogen dioxide.

It is speculated that some local councils will be asked to consider charging for the use of polluting vehicles.

Since 2010 levels of nitrogen dioxide, which is primarily emitted from diesel traffic, has been at illegals levels in almost 90% of the UK.

Each year nitrogen dioxide causes around 20,500 premature deaths, according to the UK governments own data.

One move would be to support councils in refitting old polluting buses, as well as focusing on the way that traffic lights can be employed to reduce emissions around certain junctions.
