The travel industry is trying to anticipate trends by focusing on the travel habits of the millennials.
Research from Expedia has offered some interesting insights into their travel behaviours.
Almost 70% of millennials are planning their travel online and more than half are using their smartphone / tablet while they travel. This isn’t too surprising, especially when you consider a survey by the Bank of America which showed that almost 4 in 10 millennials stated that they interact more with their phone than they do with their family / friends.
Another interesting trend is that 42% of millennials contemplate 2 or more destinations while planning for their trip, meaning that they are no longer thinking about travel in a one-dimensional way. It is a known observation that millennials have shorter attention spans meaning that they are seeking to design more creative itineraries.
As a result, the travel industry is beginning to set their prices of multiple destination journeys more competitively.
