US and EU officials decide not to implement a ban on electronics on flights from Europe

US and EU officials have made the decision not to implement a ban on laptops and tablets in cabin baggage on flights from Europe.

However, officials have stated that other security measures are still being considered.

Officials met in Brussels to discuss the current threats on aviation security and previously, US officials had said that they were looking into extending the electronics ban on flights to Europe.

Currently the ban is active in the US from 8 countries (Turkey, Morocco, Jordan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait) which have a Muslim majority and it was introduced as there is a concern that bombs can be concealed in certain devices. The UK has issued a similar ban on flights from 6 countries (Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia).
