USA and China leading the way with Solar Power

Last year saw the amount of solar power added soar to 50%, largely due to the sun rush seen in the USA and China.

New solar photovoltaic capacity installed in 2016 reached more than 76 gigawatts, which is a significant increase on the 50GW installed the year before. China and the US led the surge, with both countries almost doubling the amount of solar they added in 2015, according to data compiled by Europe’s solar power trade body.

Worldwide there is now 305GW of solar power capacity, which is up from around 50GW in 2010 and practically zero at the turn of the millennium.

The UK are still leading the way in Europe, despite a decrease in installations after the UK Government cut subsidies.
