Viewpoints on Mobility Post Coronavirus

Fleet Forward recently asked subject matter experts from various corners of the travel, transportation, and mobility spectrums to assess the short- and long-term impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on mobility. Click here to read the full post.

Editor Chris Brown also commented on the future of mobility in a post COVID-19 world in his post Predicting the Evolution of Mobility Options in the Pandemic Recovery.

Both posts raise the point that like most other aspects of life the mobility sector will no doubt be changed by the pandemic - possibly permanently and definitely for the long term.

Chris Brown comments, "In terms of general business types, prevailing wisdom has government business returning first; in fact, government travel for essential services has actually increased in some sectors. Commercial business would come next, with regional and long-haul trucking returning to serve reopening manufacturing plants, stores, and restaurants. Last-mile deliveries, of course, have only increased during the pandemic.

"The return of leisure travel may take longer, with different sectors reemerging intermittently as well: People will be starved to get out to visit friends and relatives, though they may prefer a car over travel by plane. With limited discretionary spending, vacations would be shorter and closer to home. International travel recovering slower as a result."

One thing is for certain, Green Motion's global car and van rental franchise network is ready to provide vehicle rental whenever it is required - whether it be for key workers making essential journeys, or, once restrictions are lifted, for customers choosing a well earned 'drive & stay' vacation in their country of residence in order to avoid air travel, and of course for those international business and leisure travelers worldwide once the pandemic is well and truly behind us all.
