Volvo to make all new models with an electric motor by 2019

The carmaker, Volvo has stated that all of their new models will have an electric motor by 2019.

Volvo has become the first traditional car manufacturer to signal the end of the internal combustion engine.

While Volvo’s announcement does sound dramatic, in reality the company is simply reflecting the direction that much of the auto industry is already aiming towards.

Volvo is also, in part, reacting to emission regulations which are getting tighter. From 2021, carmakers in the EU will have to ensure that across their fleet their average CO2 output is no more than 95g per k/m.

The Chinese-owned firm plans to launch 5 fully EV models from 2019 to 2021 as well as a range of hybrid models.
