Green Motion pride themselves on running ecologically efficient rental stations and offices worldwide. As well as offering low emission, electric and hybrid vehicles as an affordable alternative to standard rental companies’ gas-guzzling vehicles, our UK rental stations are completely Carbon Neutral. This means that customers journeys are now completely offset by donations from Green Motion UK to an Indian wind farm and Amazon conservation project. Similarly, our international customers get the opportunity to donate £1 of their rental fee to the FONIFO conservation project in Costa Rica (Our Green Heart donation), as a way of tackling the universal climate crisis.
We are extremely proud of the work our teams do to support these international causes but have recently asked our locations to begin focussing their efforts on their local communities so that we can evoke change at a local level as well as internationally. In the past few months, we have very proudly witnessed several of our UK and Polish locations commit themselves to volunteer work in their local areas. The staff have chosen to do this by offering their own paid work hours in exchange for volunteering activities such as litter-picking to care for our communal green spaces.
Any Green Motion direct customers renting from our Keflavik location will automatically be given the opportunity to contribute towards our Green Heart donation, however, our team in Iceland have taken their commitment to becoming more ecological, one step further.
Much like in the UK, customers visiting Green Motion Keflavik will now have the option to choose if they want to offset their carbon footprint from their journeys whilst renting with us. This is done through Icelandic company Kolviður, The Iceland Carbon Fund (ICF), who offer a carbon offsetting service through tree planting across Iceland. The amount donated from each rental is calculated by the kilometres driven and average amount of petrol used per 100 km. For example, a customer who chooses to drive a petrol vehicle the full circle around Iceland using 5 Litres of petrol per 100 km would only require a donation of £3.30 GBP to completely offset their carbon footprint during their time in Iceland.
The money raised by Green Motion renters will go straight to The Iceland Carbon Fund, Kolviður and will be used to plant trees to decrease the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This company also tackle the very prominent issue of soil-erosion in Iceland which gravely affects vegetated ecosystems and animal habitats.
