Why Should You Rent Green?

Isn’t it expensive?

Many people assume that electric vehicles will cost a lot more to rent than the standard petrol or diesel models but they couldn’t be more wrong! The reason that electric vehicles are more expensive to purchase is due to the value of the battery but this is irrelevant when hiring, in fact you’ll end up saving yourself a pretty penny on fuel. Electric car manufacturers are now working on ways to reduce the cost of batteries on order to make their cars more affordable but we’d suggest that you always try before you buy! Green Motion thinks that everyone should experience the benefits of driving an electric vehicle and with one-way rental across the UK, there’s no reason why you can’t!

I don’t have time for that!

Another issue that most seem to assume about electric vehicles is that they take an age to charge. This period is dependent on the size and type of vehicle & battery, whilst some vehicles can take over 12 hours to fully charge, the majority take between 30 minutes to 2hours.

Engineers are always working to improve the time it takes to charge these vehicles and Porsche are currently testing a 450kw charging station that could potentially cut charging time to just a few minutes.

Where do I charge?

The UK currently has over 22,000 charging points around the country with Government plans to install more once the purchase of eco cars increases through the provisions of grants to local authorities and potentially, to qualifying electric car owners.

If you’re renting in the UK and need to know where your nearest charging point is, use the Zap Map! - https://www.zap-map.com/

Going green abroad? Check where the nearest charging points are here - https://openchargemap.org/site

All of our Green Motion locations will have charging points and rental agents will be able to advise those hiring an electric vehicle on the nearest charging points.

How green are they?

Ofcourse there are still issues with how environmentally friendly the manufacturing of the electric cars is. Whilst the production of both kinds of vehicles will currently have an effect on the environment, the electric vehicle is without doubt the more environmentally friendly option in the long run with engineers constantly developing new methods of eco-friendly production.

The disposal of the vehicle’s battery at the end of life is also a concern of many individuals thinking of renting an electric car with Green Motion but the current UK regulations combat this by requiring that manufacturers pay for the collection, recycling and disposal of batteries. The truth is, that this technology is constantly developing and engineers are always finding new ways to make batteries more energy efficient with longer life spans.
