With Hurricane Irma approaching the United States, President Donald Trump has declared a state of emergency in Florida, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. All three regions are forecasted to be hit by the hurricane within the week.

The category 5 storm may reach Puerto Rico as soon as this afternoon before making its way towards the continental US. It is one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded.

The storm comes as the US states of Texas and Louisiana are still reeling from Hurricane Harvey, which threw on them more than 50 inches of rain and claimed the lives of dozens.

The governor of Florida ordered state officials to suspend the tolls last night as many residents prepared to evacuate.

While the exact path of the storm is still unknown, the US is doing all it can to hope for the best but also prepare for the worst.
