Green Motion Gives Holiday Car Rental Advice For Britons

Many britons (citizens of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland) holding a UK driving license may not be aware that the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle License Agency) are withdrawing the paper counterpart with the effect of the 8th of June 2015.

While confusion still remains with many European and worldwide car rental companies regarding the UK driving license paper counterpart, it is the car hirers responsibility to demonstrate their lawful entitlement to drive a car and as such, it is important for all British citizens / UK license holders to take the appropriate measures to ensure they either have the relevant documentation with them or have access to the documentation at the hire desk.

WHAT TO DO

With the effect of the 8th of June 2015, there are two options available to holiday car hire clients.

1. They can access the DVLA website the day before they travel and obtain a password which is valid for 72 hours. On arrival at their holiday destination, they can present the website link and password at the Green Motion car hire desk / location. This link and password will allow the Green Motion representative to verify that the driving license is valid and does not have any prohibited offences listed such as drink driving or driving without insurance (which would invalidate your ability to hire a vehicle).

2. Once again the car hire client can access the DVLA website the day before they travel and print off a report showing their current convictions (including speeding offences etc.) for presentation at the rental counter. Depending on the country where the car rental is to take place will determine whether or not this will be an acceptable form due to local restrictions and therefore Green Motion recommends that contact is made prior to travelling with their Central Reservations department for advice.

Green Motion offers holiday car hire services at over 19 countries worldwide including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Netherlands, Italy, Iceland, Ireland, Greece, Malta, USA, Belgium, Costa Rica, Jordan, Latvia, Mexico, United Kingdom, Croatia, Finland, Lithuania and Cyprus.
