Green Motion - Redefining Car Rental

The team at Green Motion are challenging and leading the industry, in order to redefine car rental by offering a level of transparency and honesty not seen before. Customers will now be able to book a great service that matches their hire requirements with four definitive product offerings.

Today Green Motion launched their pioneering new ‘multi-product under one brand’ proposition to offer greater ease, flexibility and transparency to customers confused by the overwhelming number of brands competing online for their booking. To view the introductory video, click here.


From February 2019, Green Motion customers around the world will be able to choose from four simple products at clear price points in each market, with the option to enhance their package at a later stage if they want:

  • BASIC - a package featuring limited mileage with a high excess and a high deposit, with no option for amendments, cancellations or refunds.
  • PLUS - a package featuring limited mileage with a medium excess and medium deposit, with cancellation in line with terms and conditions.
  • PREMIUM - a package featuring unlimited mileage, low excess and low deposit, with cancellation in line with terms and conditions.
  • PREMIUM PLUS - A package featuring unlimited mileage, zero excess, low deposit, glass and tyre coverage, up to 2 free optional extras, and cancellation up to 48 hours before hire.

These products have been developed by Green Motion as an antidote to the increasingly confusing global car rental market in which the five major brands (Avis, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt) have responded to increasing competition by acquiring and launching sub-brands across various market segments to appear more attractive.

Richard Lowden, CEO of Green Motion, said: “Currently, competitive pressures in our industry are driving key players to scramble for market share in a way that acts against the best interests of consumers. The five major global brands operate in excess of 20 sub brands between them without any real transparency or clear differentiation between their products.

“We’ve had a real wake-up call in the past year on how important it is to improve our customer offering. Today’s launch marks a bold step to buck the trend being set by the major global brands who are behaving like chameleons in the battle for bookings.
“Our objective is simple – to be totally transparent with customers and let them make a confident decision more easily on what they would like to include in their car rental package. We challenge the rest of our industry to follow so that customers benefit from greater transparency of choice when looking online for car rental deals.”

Green Motion continued to grow its global network in 2018 to cover 400 locations in over 40 countries that serviced more than 850,000 reservations.

Its new ‘multi-product under one brand’ launch follows a number of industry leading steps introduced over the past year to improve customer experience. These include extending collection periods for customers who might be delayed, providing the most comprehensive vehicle inspection advice to help avoid unwarranted damage costs and increasing the inspection grace period to 10am the next day if collection takes place in the dark or bad weather.

Green Motion is planning further mobile technology-based innovation in the coming year that will revolutionise when, where and how customers can choose to collect their rental cars.
