Seven things you can do to help stop 'hothouse Earth'

Following the recent reports from scientists warning of the dangers of irreversible 'hothouse Earth' conditions if global temperatures rise just 1 more degree, many have been asking themselves what they can do to combat this.

According to theconversation.com, there are meaningful actions and initiatives that people in their communities can do to try to make a difference:

1 - Change your lifestyle - this can be anything from becoming vegetarian to recycling more - make better informed life choices giving consideration to the effects that your actions have on the environment.

2 - Sow the seeds - not only consider growing your own fruit and vegetables and including more plants in your living space, but also encourage your community to do the same.

3 - Join or start an initiative - get organised - Transition Network is a good example of actions based on voluntary individual and collective participation.

4 - Think about transport - can you use public transport or cycle? If not, perhaps think about going for an electric or hybrid car.

5 - Help the scientists - Citizen science is increasingly becoming a valuable way of community-sourced and voluntary participation and research in all scientific disciplines.

6 - Engage with politics - political agendas are a reflection of what people demand so make sure your voice is heard.

7 - Check out what the government is doing, and how you can help.
