UK Experiences Record-Breaking Heatwave

The UK has had its hottest July day on record this week, with temperatures reaching 38.1C in Cambridge on Thursday. Click here to see the BBC heatwave charts and maps.

The all-time record in the UK still stands at 38.5C recorded at Faversham, Kent, in 2003.

The hot weather caused major problems on the UK railways with widespread heat related delays.

Forecasters warned the heat could lead to heavy rain in some areas, causing more disruption to travellers.

Temperatures have also been soaring across Europe. After the hottest June on record, several European countries are expected to hit new highs in the next couple of days.
