Bristol and the surrounding area will use its £7million government grant to increase the uptake of ultra-low emission vehicles in the area.
A total of four West of England authorities plan to use the Go Ultra Low Cities funding to help convert 20-25 per cent of their light vehicles to Ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs).
The government funding will also be used to double the number of charging points in the region and increase the number of registered ULEVs in the region to 5,000 per year by 2020.
Plans are also in place to establish 50 new ULEV car clubs and the authorities will be working with business and supermarkets to encourage them to switch to ULEVs and build more charge points.
Poppy Welch, Head of Go Ultra Low, said “With thousands more plug-in cars set to be sold, cutting running costs for motorists and helping the environment, this investment will help to put the UK at the forefront of the global ultra-low emissions race.”
